Brief summaries of tropical Atlantic activity tailored to the general public, coastal residents, and weather enthusiasts. I have been sending out these updates since 1996, and appreciate everyone's continued interest!

Two tropical storms are close to forming in the Atlantic, unusually early in the year
Today's update on the two systems that could become Bret and Cindy is available on the Capital Weather Gang blog:
"The eastern system is approaching the Windward Islands at an unusually low latitude (not even at 9 degrees north yet). It is expected to develop into the season’s second named storm, Bret, very soon, and then cross the southern Windward Islands on Tuesday."
Neither of them are named yet. They are both close to becoming tropical cyclones, and even tropical storms, so it's not obvious which will be Bret and which will be Cindy, although the eastern one appears a bit better organized... so my bets are on that one becoming Bret.

ReplyDeleteIs the easterly storm Bret or Cindy?
